Supporting the region

Newcastle College works with businesses across the region to deliver world-class training, open-up employment opportunities and help employers to access the next generation of skilled talent.

Its Business Development team helps employers to access training, funding and recruitment support.

The College specialises in vocational training and by working closely with industry it can offer its students work experience opportunities and industry insight through masterclasses and guest lectures, while employer partners can access a pipeline of skilled and work-ready students and graduates.

WD Close

WD Close is a respected family-owned fabrication business based in the North East, who provide Newcastle College apprentices with real working experience.

WD Operations Manager Craig Playford said "The main benefit of the apprenticeships is to support and strengthen the core staff we currently have working at WD Close. Our hope is that by working together, our employees can pass on all their knowledge and experience to this new generation of fabrication workers, who can help make our business (and the industry as a whole) be more dynamic."

Principal Newcastle College

Scott joined Newcastle College in August 2016 as Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality and has progressed during his time at NCG into roles as Deputy Principal and then into his current position as Principal of Newcastle College.

Jon joined Newcastle College's Principalship team in August 2016 and in 2021 he became Deputy Principal and a member of NCG Executive leading on higher education. Passionate about the power of education to transform lives, Jon leads on NCG’s Higher Education Strategy to 2030.
