NCG has been shortlisted for the coveted “Innovation” award at the annual Educate North awards.

The Educate North Awards – now in its tenth year – is a prestigious annual awards ceremony which celebrates, recognises and shares best practice and excellence in the education sector in the North.

NCG’s shortlisted project is a new AI Administrator application, designed to reduce teachers’ workload and provide them with time to review, adapt and develop their teaching strategies and resources. So far, the app has reduced hours spent creating teaching resources by around 80%.

Head of Learning Technology and Digital Learning at NCG, Rob Wraith, explained: “Digital skills requirements are changing rapidly, and teaching and support colleagues need the time and the tools to upskill themselves and gain confidence to be able to support our students to improve their digital skills.

“The AI Administrator has enabled colleagues across NCG to begin using AI to support their day-to-day delivery, including those who were apprehensive and unsure regarding the adoption of AI. It’s making a real difference to teaching staff across all seven of our colleges already and I’m excited about where it could take us.”

One of NCG’s seven colleges, Newcastle College has also been shortlisted for three Educate North awards in Creative Arts, Student Experience and Diversity, Equality and Inclusion. Read the full story here

The awards ceremony is due to take place in Manchester on Thursday 18 April.
