80 students from across NCG’s seven colleges gathered at Carlisle College last week, to take part in a leadership event designed to inspire them to drive change.

The ‘Changemakers Summit’ was run by Unloc, a leading education non-profit helping to inspire and empower young people. The event aimed to support student leaders from NCG’s colleges to develop their leadership skills and their capacity to drive change.

Coming from across the country, the event marked the first time that students from all seven of NCG’s colleges gathered to collaborate. Those attending took part in activities including team building exercises, interactive up-skilling workshops, campaign planning and peer-to-peer debates, where they discussed current student priorities.

They also heard from two former student leaders about their experiences of becoming changemakers, how it has set them up in their careers and how they’ve gone on to make a difference.

Carlisle College Principal Sarah McGrath said: “It was fantastic to see students from all our colleges come together and collaborate at the Changemakers Summit. The students took part in a wide variety of leadership activities, and it was an absolute pleasure to see them engage whilst developing their skills and confidence.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all students and staff involved, it was a long journey for most but hopefully well worthwhile.”
