The first Carlisle College Apprenticeship Awards was held this week, as part of a series of events to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2023.
The awards ceremony recognised and celebrated apprentices, staff and employers who have gone above and beyond to champion apprenticeships as a career route.
Nominations were made by Carlisle College staff, employers and apprentices before being shortlisted by the College’s Senior Leadership Team.
The guest speaker at the awards ceremony was Geoff Brown, former Carlisle College Joinery Apprentice and now Construction Director at the event sponsors Persimmon Homes. He opened the ceremony by saying: “Apprenticeships are absolutely vital for the long-term success of so many businesses in Cumbria, particularly those in the construction industry. We look forward to strengthening our ongoing partnership with Carlisle College to train and support the skilled workforce of tomorrow.”

“Congratulations to our winners and everyone who was nominated, and a special thank you to all our supporters, including our event sponsor Persimmon Homes and all of our award category sponsors.”
Throughout National Apprenticeship Week, Carlisle College is hosting information sessions for parents and young people to tell them about the benefits of apprenticeships. Staff will also be offering guidance on the career paths and opportunities available and helping prospective apprentices take the first step towards securing their apprenticeship.
