Five Supported Internship students at Carlisle College completed a charity drive last month to collect hygiene products for North Lakes Foodbank in Cockermouth.

The College has been supporting the foodbank for a number of years, but this is the first time the focus has been on hygiene products, and the first time that supported Internship students have led the initiative.

They managed to collect more than 4kg of products to donate to the charity, which were an essential part of holiday packs given out by the foodbank over the Christmas period. In total, the foodbank supplied more than 700 holiday packs to support low-income families and people in crisis.

Foodbank Assistant Project Manager, Grace Bennion wrote the students a letter saying “Thank you very much for your recent generous donation of 4.4Kg of toiletries to the work of North Lakes Foodbank in Cockermouth. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local population of West Cumbria. Thanks to the continued generosity of people such as yourselves, we have never had to turn someone away.”
