The Rotary Young Artists Competition Exhibition opened at West Lancashire College on Wednesday 21 February.

The local heats of the national competition were run in collaboration between Rotary Ormskirk Clocktower, 11 local primary schools and the students at the college’s Art and Design department. The national competition is designed to encourage young people to be creative, develop 2D art-making skills, and express themselves.

The theme for this year’s exhibition is ‘Rebuilding.’ Heats have been held across the UK and the winner from the local stages will progress to a district final before the national finalists are announced later in the year.

Rotary Ormskirk Clocktower approached West Lancashire College’s Art department to ask them if they would host an exhibition of the 75 chosen local entries. Louise Curran, West Lancashire College Art and Design Lecturer, said, “we are so pleased to work with the Rotary on this! The opportunity provides our students with a tremendous chance to develop their skills in staging an exhibition for the local community. It’s so lovely that our students can help budding artists from around the area to display their work in a professional way and in a fabulous setting.”

The exhibition is open Monday-Thursday 10am to 4pm until Wednesday 6 March and everyone is welcome to attend.
