Students from NCG’s seven colleges gathered at Kidderminster College in January to take part in a three-day event designed to develop their leadership potential.

The hand-picked students completed the “Unloc Leadership Academy” - an intensive course aimed at supporting student leaders to develop their leadership skills and their capacity to drive change.

Leading education non-profit Unloc aims to inspire and empower young people. Course Facilitator and co-founder of Unloc, Ben Dowling explained: "The idea behind this programme is to give a boost to those students showing a passion for leadership. The students we worked with over those three days are clearly very dedicated to making positive change and leading in an everyday way.”

The students took part in activities including team building exercises, interactive upskilling workshops, campaign planning, public speaking workshops and Q&A sessions with leaders and entrepreneurs from a range of industries including Sara Diaglo, Director at AnchoredIn, Xavier White, Head of UK&I Marketing at Verizon Business, and Anna Harris, Civil Service Leader and member of the Unloc advisory board.

Alfie, an Early Years Education student at West Lancashire College who attended the event, said, “I enjoyed all the activities that we did because it gave us a chance to interact with the students from the other colleges. The social action project in particular allowed me to develop my teamwork, leadership and communication skills. I enjoyed working with the students from the other colleges, because they were friendly, had different ways of doing things and brought fresh ideas to the group.”
