Newcastle College is celebrating a fantastic achievement after being awarded the Shine Advanced Award by the North East Combined Authority – the highest accolade in the region’s good work framework.
The Shine framework recognises organisations that go above and beyond to create fair, inclusive and responsible workplaces. Its five beams of good practice – employee wellbeing, community impact, employee voice, opportunity for all, and fair work and pay – set the standard for what great employment looks like in the North East.
This revalidation as an Advanced employer is a brilliant endorsement of Newcastle College’s continued commitment to its people-first approach and the vibrant colleague community that powers everything it does.
Lisa Hamilton-Murray, Deputy Principal of Newcastle College, shared her pride in the achievement: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive the Advanced Shine Award. Our mission is to drive social mobility and economic prosperity – and that starts with our incredible team of passionate and talented colleagues.
"As a North East anchor institution, we support thousands of people every year to build brighter futures. That wouldn’t be possible without our colleagues, who are at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to be a great college for our region, and just as proud to be a great place to work.”
The Shine Award is delivered by the North East Combined Authority, which was established in May 2024 and covers seven local authority areas: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland. Led by Elected Mayor Kim McGuinness and the Cabinet, the Authority is focused on creating a stronger, fairer North East.
