A Carlisle College apprentice has added another prestigious accolade to an already outstanding list of achievements after being named British Gypsum National Apprentice of the Year.
Jake Waite, who completed his Level 2 Plastering Apprenticeship with Carlisle College and employer partner Wannop Ltd, received the award during a presentation at the college this week in recognition of his exceptional achievements, commitment to his trade and continued success throughout his apprenticeship journey.
Jake's progression has been remarkable. Beginning as a Level 1 Plastering student at the College, he quickly demonstrated the determination, technical ability and professionalism needed to excel in the industry. Since then, he has built an impressive track record of success in skills competitions and industry awards.
Among his achievements, Jake has won the NCG Skills Plastering competition and achieved success at regional SkillBuild events. He was also named Plastering Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS) Training Awards, where judges recognised his high-level practical skills, competitive spirit and aspirational attitude.
Jake's commitment to excellence has extended beyond competitions. Throughout his apprenticeship, he maintained outstanding attendance and punctuality, consistently exceeded expectations in both college and the workplace, and earned praise from tutors, employers and colleagues for his professionalism, leadership and willingness to support others.
His achievements culminated in becoming the first Level 2 Plastering apprentice at Carlisle College to achieve a distinction across all elements of his End-Point Assessment, setting a new benchmark for future apprentices.
Jake's success serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved through hard work, determination and a commitment to continuous improvement, making him a fantastic ambassador for Carlisle College, Wannop Ltd and the wider construction sector.
