NCG’s approach to organisational resilience was the focus of a regional thought leadership event hosted by the North East Chamber of Commerce last week, reinforcing the Group’s role as the Chamber’s Knowledge and Learning Partner.
The event, Building Resilience into Your Business, brought together senior business leaders from across the North East to explore how organisations can strengthen resilience, improve readiness and flexibility, and adopt a more proactive approach to risk and change.
NCG’s Executive Principal, Tony Lewin, spoke alongside contributors from The Soma Academy and St Oswald’s Hospice. He outlined how NCG has moved beyond traditional concepts of risk management to embed adaptability into its systems, culture and decision‑making.
Drawing on NCG’s experience as the country’s only national further education college group, Tony highlighted the importance of clear organisational purpose, distributed leadership and flexible operating models in sustaining performance under pressure.
His presentation explored how resilience can be built as a dynamic capability over time, enabling organisations to anticipate change, make effective decisions with incomplete information and continue delivering core value during periods of disruption.
Following the presentations, Tony took part in a panel discussion and Q&A session, where speakers debated the evolving meaning of resilience, the role of leadership and governance, and practical steps organisations can take to improve long‑term adaptability.
Speaking after the event, Tony said: “Resilience is no longer about simply protecting what you have or recovering after disruption. At NCG, we are focused on building adaptable systems and cultures that allow us to move forward with confidence, guided by purpose and strong decision‑making. It was a privilege to share our experience with business leaders from across the region and to be part of such a thoughtful and open discussion.”
As Knowledge and Learning Partner to the North East Chamber of Commerce, NCG works closely with the Chamber to support learning, leadership development and skills growth across the region’s business community.
